Experiential Peacebuilding: Practicing the Peace We Preach
Ana Cutter Patel,
executive director, Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding

How can people living in conflict-affected communities learn to cooperate?
Experiential peacebuilding was developed on the theory that an experiential learning approach can build trust and facilitate positive experiences among adversaries. Today it is applied by the Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding to the challenge of building relationships between people on different sides of conflict.  Substantial evidence shows that certain types of shared experiences, particularly cooperative development of critical life skills in groups, are especially likely to promote solidarity. Discuss how the Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding is applying and advancing the concept of experiential peacebuilding among both practitioners and students of conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
