Event Description:

Technocracy, Connectography, and How to Run the World: An Evening with Parag Khanna
Tuesday, April 24, 6.30 - 7.45 pm

In his latest book, globalization scholar Parag Khanna argues that American democracy just isn’t good enough anymore. A costly election has done more to divide American society than unite it, while trust in government—and democracy itself—is plummeting. Khanna tours cutting-edge nations from Switzerland to Singapore to reveal the inner workings that allow them that lead the way in managing the volatility of a fast-changing world while delivering superior welfare and prosperity for their citizens. He identifies "direct technocracy" as the ideal form of government for the complex 21st century - a system led by experts but perpetually consulting the people through a combination of democracy and data.

Join CGA’s Global Economy Concentration head Peter Marber for a discussion on these and other ideas with Khanna. The first 100 attendants will also receive a copy of one of Khanna's books. Reception to follow the discussion.

Dr. Khanna is the author of five books and was named one of Esquire’s “75 Most Influential People of the 21st Century,” and featured in WIRED magazine’s “Smart List.” He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics, and Bachelors and Masters degrees from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He has traveled to more than 100 countries and is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum.
