ROBIN WRIGHT
ROCK THE CASBAH: RAGE AND REBELLION ACROSS THE ISLAMIC WORLD
Today’s activists in the Middle East include clerics, playwrights and poets, comedians, hip-hop artists, and women who mobilize for their own rights. The common denominator of these new movements is the rejection of venomous ideologies and mass violence. The new counter-jihad is imaginative and defiant, but many of these groups are also politically inexperienced and economically challenged. Wright details both the possibilities and pitfalls ahead for the rebellions redefining politics, culture, and security threats across the Islamic world.
