| 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM | Dr. Nawal El Saadawi Lectures on "Creativity, Dissidence and Women"
Dr. Nawal El Saadawi, the renowned Egyptian human rights activist and author, will deliver the lecture “Creativity, Dissidence and Women: A Multidisciplinary Conference.” It will be followed by a panel discussion on the revolution in Egypt with Dr. El Saadawi and the founders of the International Action Center. Dr. El Saadawi will discuss the crisis in Egypt, where she protested daily, as well as speak about her life as an activist.
Dr. El Saadawi is the author of over 40 fiction and non-fiction books. Her novels God Dies by the Nile and Women at Point have been banned in many Arab countries. She has been outspoken against female genital mutilation, and her writings on the topic led to her dismissal from the Egyptian Ministry of Health in the early 1970s. Later imprisoned by President Anwar Sadat for "crimes against the state," she authored Memoirs from the Women's Prison during her incarceration, using only toilet paper and a smuggled eyebrow pencil to write the manuscript.
These events are sponsored by the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) and The New York Literary Club at McGhee. The co-sponsorship is provided by the Paul McGhee Division, the SCPS Undergraduate Student Council, and the NYU Bookstore.

| 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM | Our Energy Future: Decarbonizing Electricity in Canada and the U.S. Co-sponsored by the Consulate General of Canada
Join the CGA for the first event in a series held in collaboration with the Consulate General of Canada on the decarbonization of electricity and its impact on Canada/U.S. energy relations.
Decarbonizing electricity in an efficient, reliable, and low-cost manner is central to climate change concerns, such as meeting emission reduction targets in both Canada and the United States. Whether it is achieved by phasing out coal, increasing the use of natural gas, expanding nuclear production, and/or supporting renewable sources, the political, economic, and environmental issues involved should add to the complexity and strength of the Canada/U.S. energy relationship.
Moderator: Chris Gadomski, lead analyst, nuclear, Bloomberg New Energy Finance; adjunct assistant professor, Center for Global Affairs
Panelists: John Stewart, director of policy and research, Canadian Nuclear Association Ian Nathan, senior research analyst, Energy Intelligence Research |
