5:00 PM - 6:00 PM	McGhee Prior Learning Assessment Information Session In the Prior Learning Assessment Information Sessions, attendees learn the four ways that McGhee students may earn credit for their prior college-level learning. Topics covered will include foreign language proficiency, standardized testing (CLEP/Excelsior College/Advanced Placement exams), transfer credits, and credits earned through the portfolio process in McGhee's Seminar in Experiential Learning (attending this information session is a prerequisite for entering the seminar). The main focus of the assessment will be the prior college-level learning that adults have earned before returning to or starting college. Students will also be given the opportunity to ask questions related to individual academic circumstances. The session will be held at 7. East 12th Street (between University Place and Fifth Avenue) in conference room 322.
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM	In Print featuring Michael T. Klare This series features James F. Hoge, Jr., counselor, Executive Office, Council on Foreign Relations; chairman, Human Rights Watch; and CGA advisory board member, in conversation with leading journalists and authors. Books are available for sale following the event. Michael T. Klare - The Race for What's Left: The Global Scramble for the World's Last Resources The world is facing an unprecedented crisis of resource depletion encompassing shortages of coal and natural gas, copper and cobalt, water, and arable land. Michael T. Klare takes us from the Arctic to war zones to deep ocean floors, from a Russian submarine planting the country’s flag under the North Pole to the large-scale buying up of African farmland by Saudi Arabia and other nations. As he explains, this frenzy of extreme exploration and acquisition carries grave consequences including environmental risks, border disputes, and greater likelihood of military confrontation. Pre-registration is required.
