The Uses, Abuses, and Limitations of New Technologies for Humanitarian Monitoring in Unstable Areas
Richard Garfield, Henrik H. Bendixen Clinical Professor of International Nursing, Columbia University School of Nursing
Various opportunities for expanded communications in remote and disaster affected areas exist via cell phones, but much of the innovations to date are of limited use. Using examples from Haiti, China, Bolivia, and Senegal, Richard Garfield will examine the good, the bad, and the ugly in the use of cell phone technologies for monitoring humanitarian needs and response.
Pre-registration is required.
